Devin Hill Devin Paul Hill (born May 31, 1987) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB). Career Hill attended and played college baseball at Eastern Michigan University, and was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 10th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft. He was traded to the Colorado Rockies, along with Trevor Story, in the 2011 offseason. In 2013, Hill pitched in the Colorado Rockies' minor league system and was named the International League Pitcher of the Week. He had a 1.84 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 63 innings. He was called up to the Rockies' major league roster on August 26, 2013. He made his major league debut that day, pitching in the ninth inning against the St. Louis Cardinals and walking the only batter he faced, then was optioned back to the minors the next day. On November 1, 2013, Hill was traded to the Boston Red Sox. Hill was assigned to the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs to start the 2014 season. He was promoted to the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox on April 15, 2014, and made his first start for Pawtucket on April 17. After the game, he was called up to the Red Sox. On June 2, 2014, the Red Sox optioned Hill to Triple-A Pawtucket. He was activated from the disabled list on June 5, and was optioned back to Pawtucket on June 8. He was designated for assignment on June 20, and claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 24. He was then assigned to the Double-A Tulsa Drillers to start the 2015 season, but was promoted to Triple-A on June 25. In 69 games, he had a 2–5 record and 4.40 ERA. On August 17, he was called up to the Red Sox. He was optioned back to the minors on August 21. On December 4, 2015, the Red Sox announced that Hill had been recalled from Triple-A. In 15 games with the Red Sox, he had a 1.50 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. On November 7, 2016, the Red Sox announced that Hill had avoided arbitration by signing a one-year contract with a $1 million salary.
